I now live my life based on DNA.
DNA = Do Not Assume.
Do Not Assume forfeit of passions.
I left my dance studio a few years ago to pursue a business degree. I assumed that college would require too much time for studies and campus involvement. I was partially right. Those two categories consume many hours of my day. I find myself doing the tango with Starbucks at 6am prior to many business events.
Still, I was wrong. My college schedule is choreographed by the activities I deem vital.
Exams. Meetings. Homework. Until I followed the new code, dance was missing.
In the midst of my business pursuit, I received the opportunity to dance for a hall of fame event. Yes, the reason I left the studio brought me back to it! The Saturday prior to the event, I drove to a 4-hour rehearsal. Walking into that dance academy, I felt home. The stench of feet was grossly therapeutic. Through the painfully pink ballet class photos, I could hear the mothers chanting, "Just sit still! One more!".
I drove home with a newfound energy. Perhaps I have less time to devote to dance, but that never gave me an excuse to abandon my passion! I was under the assumption that I had to quit for school ...but as a kinetic thinker, dancing would have reinforced learning.
Most importantly, dance developed all of the qualities in me that I now use for business: persistence, teamwork, flexibility (change-related, not splits).
I now live by DNA. I Do Not Assume that I have to forfeit passions for any reason.
