How to Make a Diary Jar.

The extent of my diary -> "Reina reacted to your post: 'Jim from The Office is my Valentine'" Yes, Facebook. Incredibly accessible from underneath classroom desks or in the Starbucks line. Un-incredibly negative.

I came across the "memory jar" concept right after New Year's. The idea - write one note per week, mentioning something positive that happened and place it in a jar. At the end of the year, pull out and read the notes. I can always use a little more positivity in my life! Writing notes is just as quick as a social media post!

Wanting to have more fun with the project, I've been personalizing my own jar as a current WIP (work-in-progress), shown above. Here's how to make your own:

1. Channel Picasso.

Spray adhesive on the inside of the jar and sprinkle in glitter or confetti. Close the lid and shake the jar to get the materials to stick on all sides. Afterwards, dump out the excess. Depending on the type of jar you use, you can also paint the lid or write inspiring quotes/goals down the sides.

2. Minor Hoarding.

If you go out somewhere special (ie. the movies with friends, an amusement park, etc), glue your tickets to the notes. Collect pressed pennies, small seashells, and currencies from international trips in the jar.

3. Playback Playlist. Add your current favourite songs to each note. As you're reading the notes at the end of the year, resurrect your forgotten faves...even the annoying ones!

4. +++

Always put SOMETHING in the jar each week.
